Let's take a look back in history . . . . . .to see how Beer’s came into being and the man who started it all. Beer’s Automotive’s infancy was in 1970 when Joel Beer, at 31 years of age, opened his first auto repair shop with his wife, Sue. It was a family owned and run business under the name of Beer's Workshop and was located on Dale Avenue in Shelby, Ohio. Then, in 1972 the business became Beer and Gates. Three years later, Joel sold his part of the auto repair business and began working as a mechanic for RG Beer Construction. Out of his own home, Joel opened Beer’s Repair in 1980. After running his at home auto repair business for 2 years, he moved the location of Beer’s Repair to a shop on Mansfield Avenue in Shelby. Joel built the present building at the 225 North Gamble Street in Shelby, Ohio location in 1990. Joel semi-retired in 2002 and in 2009 fully retired.
